I love cars, but I really love motorcycles. Driving a fast car can feel like flying a jet. But a fast bike, that feels like flying with a cape. I’ve spent a huge part of my life on two wheels. I’ve sacrificed time, money, friendships, even my own body to bikes. But after all that, I’ve never ridden - or even seen - a diesel motorcycle. And that got me curious: Why aren’t there any diesel motorcycles? Well, we’re about to find out!

Just to be contrary there are 2 stroke diesels also. I happens I think the highest reving piston engines in the world are diesels. Wrong you say nope I learned this about 60 years back in the pages of the legendary Johnson Smtih catalog you old comic book fans will remember that. Well is turns out them little string control Cox model airplane engines were Diesels. What no place ever said that except some german company and I didn't believe it. How could i? I was 10 so I didn't really know that but but I knew is wasn't a Peterbuilt or a southern pacific stream liner. Well what i didn't know is what makes a diesel a diesel. Its 2 main things first diesels run off of compression ignition\detonation. They knock or ping for ignition as opposed to poppet valve otto cycle engines. the other way you can tell they are diesels is they don't have an ignition deviceor sparkplug they use Glow plugs thats the dead giveaway. these little motors really spin too cus they have so little mass 25k to 80k rpms are not unusual. Well thats about it. But I'm surprised mr donut (didn't know what his name is?) (EDIT got to the end and found out your Jerry) didn't mention that because his content is very well researched and comprehensive. I just saw his vid on blown supercharged fuel engines and it was brilliant. Short concise and covered the min points of a fuel super charged car in only 20 minutes.

Although not the same, it is interesting to note that at one time Polaris produced a diesel ATV. Because it got better fuel economy than the gasoline powered ones, it had a 3.5 gallon tank vs. the 5 gallon for the gas. I think it was heavier than a comparable gas ATV.

Just as an "FYI," like gasoline, there are also 2-stroke diesels. And some manufactures (Mazda, VW, BMW, Mercedes, Kia, GM, Hyundai, Honda and Ford...just to name a few :-) ) use direct injection with their gas engine. It's actually a better method that any "port" type injection system.

I have once ridden a diesel motorcycle! It was made by a local crazy inventor guy. It had a CB750 frame with a moped car engine, with all of 13 horsepower and a CVT transmission. The builder was Norwegian born so I first misheard him saying 30 horsepower. "Thirty horsepower? Wow that's actually okay." - "No, tir-tiin, one three." - "Oh okay :D" He let us have a go and my two buddies went first. I thought "Boy, they sure are being overly cautious," but when I tried it I realized they had been accelerating flat out. In the end it topped out at maybe 80kph, but it sure got good mileage!

I totally get the big reason diesel is much heavier than a gas engine causing it be harder to ride comfortably, but that theory goes out the window when you see fully dressed Harleys, Hondas and other road bikes that weigh at least 800 to 1000 pounds. These bikes are not built with cat like maneuverability as an issue, they are built to ride and weight just isn't an issue. Personally, I hate diesels, but for the sake of argument, Im betting if a few of those major manufacturers made diesel road bikes NOW, that get 3 times the gas mileage and less maintenance as gas, they'd sell. Alot of the success of a product is timing. NOW, if they would run as clean as a diesel car engine does, you;' have something, but diesel is major polluter and that alone would keep my money in my pocket.

The development of the diesel engines into high speed motors, comes from changing from a single injection (a cannon) to a multi injection (many small injections per stroke = like a machine gun) and this means that you can run LIGHT pistons and have much faster RPM. The Krauts did it with the Volkswagon Golf.

A diesel engine is simpler with less parts, no computerized electronic ignitions or spark plugs. The engines produce more torque and can run all day with 4 times the gas mileage. Reliable single cylinder engines have been used in boats for decades. They run hot but today's bikes have coolant radiators. They do run at lower RPM but so do Harley engines. Improvements have been made in diesel engines emission controls.

    Pred 4 dňami

Not all diesels are 4 stroke, Google 2 stroke diesel, thus shaving off considerable weight and head height. The only real point made here is acceleration is not like that of a gasoline engine. Torque can easily be converted to horsepower with the use of a cvt, again not what most riders are looking for so it limits the sale ability to a select market of buyers. That in a nutshell is most likely the reason for the Big 4, Japanese manufacturers, steering clear of that possible pothole in the road. I've heard talk of Honda putting 4 stroke diesels in utility quads and power plants in the near future...I'd love a diesel in my hunting quad!

What about horizontally opposed engine(like BMW) Vibration is cancelled and size is not a problem and weight is not a problem. No reason it has to be a V twin. Beamers are excellent touring motorcycles. There is room for a turbo on it too. Definitely need an extra long kick starter arm due to the high compression. Diesel engine also runs on Kerosene....or used cooking oil from MickeyD's.

I have gotten out of several tickets without the help of any lawyer. This actually comes from advice given to me by police officers and I know it works, because I have used it several times, and it almost always works. First off, drive safely. If you commit no traffic infractions you will get no tickets. Having a clean driving record is an extremely important part of this method. It can work if you have tickets on your record, but the more tickets you have, the harder it will be to talk your way out. Being a safe driver or rider will be of great help here. But no one is perfect, and you are bound to make a mistake sooner or later. Thing is, cops understand this. And with your DL the cop will have access to your record. Having a clean record will give merit to your words. First off, understand that if a cop pulls you over, that cop believes you did something wrong. It doesn't matter one bit if you did or did not actually do something wrong. Arguing that you didn't do anything wrong will only harm. All you are doing when you argue is telling the cop, "You suck at your job." Even if it's true, and some cops really suck at being cops, saying so will never help you. How inclined will you be to help someone who tells you to your face that you suck at your job, especially if helping them is not part of your job? If you get pulled over, you probably disserve to get a ticket, at the very least the cop *BELIEVES* you disserve to get a ticket, and that is really all that matters. So if the cop chooses not to write a ticket he is doing you a favor. If you go into the encounter with the attitude that you disserve a ticket, oddly, you are a lot more likely to not get one. In one case, when I was still a teenager (19) I got a speeding ticket. I was, in fact, speeding and the cop even lowered the speed he had me at, but not long after getting that ticket I lost my job. I went to court not to fight the ticket but to ask to have my fine reduced or to get assigned community service. The judge asked the cop what my attitude was like and the cop said it had been good. Then the judge asked the cop if there was any reason he shouldn't dismiss the ticket. I was surprised when the cop said "no" I beat the ticket by admitting, in court, that I was speeding! I saw the cop outside the court and asked him why he didn't fight the dismissal and he said when he had pulled me over he was on the fence between a ticket and a warning. He chose to write the ticket mainly due to my age, but because I had not tried to fight the ticket in court, he felt I had learned my lesson. Once, because I was not paying enough attention I almost ran a red light. The car I would have collided with was a cop car. I stopped less than a foot from them. I had to back up so the cop could proceed. He waggled his finger at me to follow and I was sure I was going to get a ticked, and I deserved it! But the cop let me off with a warning. I think that alone proves my method works. I mean nearly colliding with a cop car is usually a sure way to get a ticket.
